Work Experience

YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE

Belmont High School encourages students to participate in work experience to build skills and develop ideas for their future directions. Work experience is the short term placement of secondary school students, generally from Years 10, 11 and 12, with employers to provide insights into the industry and the workplace in which they are located. It provides students with the valuable opportunity to:

  • develop employability skills
  • explore possible career options
  • understand employer expectations and the nature of work
  • increase their self-understanding, maturity, independence and self-confidence.
  • improve communication, and organisational skills and gain self confidence
  • examine and assess initial career choices and career opportunities that can assist in their course and career decision making
  • develop an awareness of appropriate attitudes and behaviours in the work place
  • develop contact with potential employer

Students are placed with employers primarily to observe and learn – not to undertake activities which require extensive training or expertise

Year 10 are encouraged to take the opportunity to complete Work Experience during the last week of term throughout the year. Dates include:

  • Term 1:    3 - 6 April 2018
  • Term 2:    2 - 6 July 2018
  • Term 3:    24 - 28 September 2018
  • Term 4:    3 - 7 December 2018

Year 10 students interested in completing Work Experience MUST attend a work experience meeting and complete all necessary documents. Students should source their own placement.
