POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR for LEARNING (PB4L) at Belmont High School
PB4L is a systematic approach that brings together the whole school community to contribute to a positive and supportive learning culture. PB4L underpins our school vision of providing an inclusive environment where we promote Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
Our 3 UNIVERSALS are...The 3 R’s
RESPECT
Follow instructions
RESPONSIBILITY
RESILIENCE
These 3 R’s are the values upon which all of our expectations are based. Students are encouraged to demonstrate these values in all areas of their school life. Lessons are presented to students on a weekly basis, and workshops using the ‘Cool Tools’ sheets allow students to unpack, discuss and understand explicit behaviours and their importance at school.
FOCUS OF THE WEEK
At Belmont High School we have a ‘Focus of the week’ which is a specific target behaviour that is selected by analysing student database entries the week before. We meet regularly with our PB4L team, Student Representative Council (SRC), and run workshops with students in all year groups to develop whole school PB4L ideas. Throughout the PB4L workshops, students have designed some of our engaging lessons that are presented on assembly, and at times the students have actually presented the lesson to the student body. The high level of student involvement allows us to tailor resources to the student’s interests, and make our messages relevant and meaningful.
Belmont High School staff recognise students who are displaying our school values and reward these students with:
These are awarded for good behaviour, improving, or excelling in an area of school. We have a Bestie Draw every 3 weeks and all students who received Besties have a chance in this draw. Prizes include $30 shopping vouchers, restaurant vouchers, canteen vouchers and other prizes from our sponsors.
Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards are awarded to students based on the number of positive data entries they have received in Sentral. Formal assemblies are held to present these awards to students.
We hold special PB4L events including ‘Tunes in the Quad’ where all students can enjoy music and dancing in the playground at lunch time. During these discos, prizes are awarded to participants and ice blocks on hot days!
