WELCOME TO SPECIAL ED

At Belmont High School we operate a Support Faculty for students with additional needs. Currently we have 2 Multi Categorical classes (MC), a Moderately Intellectual class (IO), an Autism class and a Mild Intellectual class (IM). Each class caters for a different number of students and abilities.

Support Classroom Teacher Roles

Support Classroom Teachers develop and deliver specialised learning programs for students (Year 7 to Year 12) who have a range of disabilities and learning difficulties. Students are provided with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfil their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Teachers develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels.

School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) Role

SLSO’s work under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher. They provide assistance to students with disability and additional learning needs. An SLSO can aid with school routines, classroom activities and the care and management of students.

Key Learning Area's

Students follow a personal learning pathway incorporating Life Skills and mainstream Stage 4, 5 and 6 programsStudents are taught within the classes the subjects of English, Maths, Science, HSIE (History and Geography) and PDHPE. Students have elective classes in the areas of Science, Food Technology, Music and Visual Arts. These lessons are taught by mainstream staff in specialist rooms.
