STAGE 4 - Years 7 & 8

Stage 4 is Year 7 and 8. At Belmont High School Year 7 complete Geography and Year 8 complete History and Japanese.

YEAR 7

Geography

Year 7 students complete 100 hours of Mandatory Geography. Through geographical inquiry they develop an understanding of the interactions between people, places and environments across a range of scales in order to become informed responsible and active citizens.

Students complete the following topics from the NSW Geography Syllabus:

Topic 1 - Landforms and Landscapes

Topic 2 - Place and Liveability

Topic 3 - Water in the World

Topic 4 - Interconnections

Each term the students complete one task. These tasks include literacy, geographic skills, project based learning and presentation skills.

YEAR 8

History

Year 8 complete 100 hours of Mandatory History. The aim of the History syllabus is to stimulate students' interest in and enjoyment of exploring the past, to develop a critical understanding of the past an its impact on the present, to develop the critical skills of historical inquiry and to enable students to participate as active, informed and responsible citizens.

Students complete the following topics from the NSW History Syllabus:

Topic 1 - The Ancient World

Topic 2 - Medieval Europe

Topic 3 - Japan and the Shogun

Topic 4 - The Spanish Conquest

Each term the students complete one task. These tasks include literacy, historical inquiry, project based learning and presentation skills.

Japanese

JAPANESE

Year 8 also complete 100 hours of Japanese. The study of languages provides opportunities for students to become more accepting of diversity, more respectful of others and more aware of their place in the international community.

Students complete the following topics from the NSW Japanese Syllabus:

Topic 1:  All About Me and Japan

Topic 2:  Family and Housing

Topic 3:  Sports and School

Topic 4:  Eating and Drinking

Students complete assessments throughout the year which test their skills in speaking, writing and reading Japanese.
