Principal's Update

Years 7 to 11 return next week – Monday 25th October

Good evening students, parents, carers and community members,

For a safe and successful return to school next Monday, the following risk reduction measures will be in place at Belmont High.

In order to meet Public Health Guidelines students and staff are required to:

* Wear masks – while indoors and carry them with them at all other times (this does not apply to students in our support unit).

* Practise good hygiene - wash hands and utilise provided hand sanitiser which is available in all classrooms. Wipe shared equipment down with supplied anti-bacterial wipes and spray at the completion of lessons.

* Follow physical distancing guidelines - 1.5 metres (we have arrows and crosses on the ground to help).

* If feeling unwell, students and staff who have COVID-19 symptoms should not attend school and will need a negative COVID-19 test before they return to school or isolate for 10 days where a test or medical certificate is not available.

NSW Health, along with expert advice from the World Health Organisation, tells us that maximising natural ventilation in our learning spaces is the most effective method for minimising the spread of COVID-19, as it is a very effective way to disperse particles in the air. This can be best achieved by opening doors and windows. These have all been checked by School Infrastructure NSW and are all operational.

The NSW Dept of Education will continue with its targeted hygienic cleaning process in schools on a daily basis to align with NSW Health guidance. In addition to daily general cleaning, the enhanced cleaning will include a thorough wipe down of targeted areas including hard surfaces, door handles, lockers, light switches and handrails in stairways and movement areas.

Extra toilets will be unlocked and left open at all times to avoid break time congregation of students.

No visitors are allowed on site.

* Canteen - will be closed Monday 25th - Tuesday 26th and will recommence trading, with limited stock, on Wednesday 27th October. Students are strongly encouraged to pre-order to avoid missing out.

* Students will be expected to be in full school uniform.

* No Assemblies are allowed under a Level 3 return so students will go straight to their timetabled classes for period 1, Monday Week B.

If you have any further concerns, please contact me at the school on (02) 4945 0600

Take care and stay safe.

Kind regards,

Tony Keevill | Relieving Principal BHS
